Toronto's Winter Weather: Cleanup Continues as More Snow Looms
The City of Toronto is bracing for another round of winter weather, with more snow expected on Friday afternoon, as crews continue their tireless cleanup efforts following Thursday's major winter storm.
The city's streets and sidewalks are still being cleared, and residents are preparing for the next wave of winter weather. According to Environment Canada, as of 5 p.m. on Thursday, approximately 22 cm of snow had fallen at Toronto Pearson International Airport over a 24-hour period. In Scarborough North, the snowfall was even more intense, with approximately 48 to 53 cm of snow.
The storm caused significant disruption, shuttering elementary and high schools, daycares, universities, recreation centres, and municipal buildings in parts of the GTA outside Toronto. The City of Toronto has declared a Major Snowstorm Condition in response to the significant snowfall, which means the municipality will enact bylaws to help keep the city moving, including designated snow routes where parking is prohibited.
The declaration also allows the city to move snow to designated storage sites. However, the snowfall totals for Friday are expected to be significantly less than what the city experienced on Thursday. About two centimetres of snow is expected to fall this afternoon, followed by two to four centimetres tonight.
Toronto will see a high of -2 C today, but it will feel closer to -13 with the wind chill. As the cleanup efforts continue, residents are urged to stay informed and prepared for the next round of winter weather. Remember to check the forecast and plan your activities accordingly.
